COUNTY SCHOOL SPORTS

EVENTS AT OPUNAKE KING’S JUBILEE DAY GATHERING (From Our Own Correspondent.) ' The Egniont School Sports Association’s annual meeting held at the Opunake domain on Monday was easily the most successful day held since the sports were instituted. The weather was beautifully fine and a large crowd was present to witness some very interesting and keenly contested events. In the senior division six schools competed and the challcgc cup was won by Pihama with 109.8 points.

Details of the placings were as follow: Pihama (169.8 points) 1, Opunake Convent (106.2) 2, Opunake Public (34.5) 3, Raliotu (33) 4, Oaonui (24.2) 5, Warea (5.3) 6. The junior shield drew eight entries and was won by Kaliui Road School with 101.4 points. Placings were as follow: Kahui (101.4. points) 1, Manga - hume (SI) 2, Waiteika ((31.9) 3, Opua Road (27.7) 4, Ihaia Road (15) 5, Arawliata (8) 6, Te Kiri (G) 7, Kina Road (1.7) 8. The officials carried out tlieir duties in a thorough manner and the organisation and arrangements were in the hands of Mr ,C. Clegg. Mr L. Herdman, as result steward, was kept busy letting the competitors and public know the progress of tho sports. At the conclusion of the programme tho president (Mr A. J. Lilley) congratulated the winners on their fine performances and also all the competitors for tho fine showing they had made. He then called on Mr J. Tosland to accept the senior cup on be- 1 half of the Pihama School and Mr R. Fleming to accept the junior shield for the Kahui School. Messrs Tosland and Fleming replied for their respective schools.

At noon refreshments were supplied by a ladies’ committee and the day, although somewhat strenuous, was a jolly outing for the children as well as the grown-ups.
