Thousands tumultuously . greeted Their Majesties when they appeared on the Palace balcony at 9.50 o’clock to-night and the singing of the National Anthem and Rule Britannia and the sound of cheering were heard as far as Piccadilly. The streets again were crammed with people and thousands of buses and cars blocked crossings in the West End. Forty tons of rubbish, largely papers, were collected in Westminster and a proportionate quantity elsewhere. The underground railways broke all records, carrying 2,250,000 people last night and earl)* to-day. The principal social event to-night* was the Prince of Wales jubilee party at St. James’ Palace. The Prince, wearing orders and decorations and in 'evening dress, stood at the grand staircase and shook hands with 1200 guests, including Royalties, members of the-Cabinet, Dominion Premiers and their wives and other distinguished people. • The high water mark in foreign compliments to the King’s broadcast was paid in a telegram from Vienna*, reading: “It was the most beautiful speech ever delivered by a king and a truly Royal utterance just because it was so unroyal. It was the speech of a good man.” The Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, to-night broadcast his impression of the jubilee and outlined New Zealand’s major economic troubles and the manner in which they have been overcome, put-, ting the Dominion in the way to recovery.
