Angry women at Montmartre attacked the police with powder puffs when they arrested an unofficial candidate at the municipal elections, Madame Weiss, who erected her own polling booth, consisting of a ballot box made from a hat box. One of the issues is female suffrage. The police, despite the fact that they were covered with white powder, grimly persisted and took Madame Weiss to a police station. She was later liberated.
