There has been a sharp finning in the potato mayket during the week consequent on inquiries from various quarters. Substantial consignments that have -gone north in the past fortnight, are apparently going into consumption without much delay; otherwise arrivals in sight would depress the market. The Timaru, and Lyttelton cargo of the Wingatui on Thursday totalled 6;">Q3 sacks, but approximately 4oCO sacks were on the wharf after the WiingatuL left, and these will be going north by the Wainui tonight-. Prompt VO lues have i improved from ‘£5 2s. Od earlier in the week to £5 10s f.0.b., (jacks - in, and May-June is quoted at £-5 Values to fanners are £4 os for prompt delivery. There has not been a- great deal of selling.,by them during the present- movement.
Oats show very little change from tho; last- report. A Cartons -are quoted at 3s 2id 1.0. b. isaekri in. Algerians, which .had temporamly l hardened to 2s Gd on trucks, are back again to 2s 4d. D.ums are -still in firm demand at 3s on trucks.
The market for partridge peas is -unaltered at 6s a, bushel in trucks. Chaff is -worth 3, .fid a ton on trucks. The market is slow. Fowl wheat is unchanged. Merchants report that a. heavy .quantity of seed wheat is going out, and it is apparent that a substantially increased acreage will be sown. Conditions have been ideal for tilling and a fair quantity of seed has already been .sown.
There is no change in values in the small seeds market and there is very little- movement -in it.
