DONATION TO CANCER FUND

WELLINGTON COUNCIL’S £SOO. PROPOSED SUM DOUBLED. (By Telegraph- ness Association.) WELLINGTON, May 3. The Wellington City Council gave £SOO to-day to the King’s jubilee cancer fund, doubling the sum the Mayor, Mr T. C. A. Ilislop, proposed as a lead for the approval of members. When Mr Hislop moved that £250 be contributed by the council Cr. P. Fraser rose with a plea that the figure be doubled.

“The action of the Government in this matter is one that everyone must approve,” he said, “and the way His Majesty went about the question of jubilee gifts in various parts of the Empire is also very gratifying.” The Mayor and other councillors supported the suggestion and the £SOO gift was approved.
