PEASANT BOY’S SUCCESS
Thotna.s Ylasaryk, the 34-year-cld President of C'zecho-SJovakia, was recently elected President for the fourth time. Tho “Sage of Prague,” a.s lie is called, is so lit that he believes he will Ire .spaaed to complete his new term of office. His age will then be 91, and he may then decide to retire. Early in: the last century a Slovak coachman, employed by tho ycung Emperor Franz Joseph of Australia wooed and won a beautiful Czech girl, Thprose. They were terribly poor and Thomas Mnsaryk, tlieir son, was apprenticed to a blacksmith. A local schoolmaster,, who realised the boy’s intellectual ability, changed the fate of a nation by starting him on an academic career. Masoavk in 1914 saw that a victory for the Allies gave a hope of freedom for his beloved Czechs and Slovaks, and- for four years he fought to bring down tho Hapsburgs.
