MAGISTRATE FAREWELLED
MR E. C. LEVVEY’S TRANSFER, TRIBUTES FROM BAR. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) s INVERCARGILL, April 20. Regret at the impending departure of Mr E ; . C. Lewey, stipendiary, magistrate, for Christchurch, was voiced by a representative gathering of the Southland Bar in the court Thursday morning. 'pie president of the District Law Society, Mr J. C. Plain, expressed the general regret- felt at Ml* Lewey’s departure, and he coupled with it the good wishes of the profession for his future life and welfare at Cliri.dUlnirch. The (relajtions between the Bench and the Bar wero most cordial; and this was made possible by His Worship’s unfailing courtesy.
The president’s remarks were supported by Mr F. G. O’Beirne, vicepresident, .Mr W. A. Stout and Mr H. J. Macalister, Crown Prosecutor. The last-named said that during the five years Mr Lewey had occupied the Bench at Invercargill he had carried the esteem and respect of the Bar, this having been clue to the combination of good qualifies and absolute impartiality. Mr Lewey thanked the Bar for the consideration given and paid a tributo to the court staff and the police.:
