ELTHAM SCHEME REJECTED. COST THOUGHT TOO HIGH. No district high school will be established at Eltham because the cost involved is too great, according to information received yesterday by the Taranaki Education Board from the Director of Education, Mr N. T. Lambourne. An application for a district high school at Eltham was made by the board after agitation on the part of Eltham residents and school committees. ■>

“After giving the matter full and careful consideration the Minister cannot accede to the request,’’ wrote the

Director of Education. “The cost involved would be substantial and the present state of the finances precludes favourable consideration being given at present.” “There is nothing more we can do,” said Mr W. 11. Jones, who presided.
