KAPONGA FOOTBALL CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELD.
TRAINING SHED PROPOSAL.
No finality has been reached with the Kaponga, Athletic Club in regard to. a- training shed for our playing members,” said Mr A. E. Gallagher (president) at the annual meeting of t]ie Kaponga. Rugby. Football Club held last evening. Mr Hesse]l said there was a possibility of a proposal which would result in a satisfactory conclusion. The chairman added that a sum of money. had been subscribed as the nucleus of a fund to provide a gymnasium.
There was an excellent attendance of members.
The annual report disclosed a satisfactory financial position but stated that this unfortunately was not due to as ready a response by players towards paying their subscription as could be desired. The non-payment of subscriptions by a number of players continued to be a. source of keen disappointment to the.committee and if
the, support of the public was to continue, a great improvement in this direction was necessary. Transport costs were very heavy and it was considered that the least players could do was to pay their subscriptions as travelling expenses were paid from club funds. ~ The catering for the seven-a-side tournament resulted in, a good return, as did the annual ball. In addition, a number of interested supporters subscribed liberally towards a j proposed building fund. The position of the club was largely due to the
support received in this direction and to the good work of the ladies’ committee in catering. The senior team.
although not successful in winning the competition, finished in a good position. It proved a stumbling block to several leading teams and only lack of keenness in training by some players prevented greater success. The •fourth grade team played very well for most of the season until an epidemic of protests cropped up in this grade. The hope was expressed that ai similar state of things would not arise this season. The juniors were not so fortunate. As- a result of the senior team frequently drawing upon tjiein for players, it was often difficult to field a team and finally they were compelled to drop out of th© competition. Congratulations were extended to those members of the club who attained representative and trial game honours, and the club extended thanks to the Selectors, managers and coaches of the various teams who devoted so much time to. their work. The report concluded with a note of thanks to the Press for impartial reports of all club ganies. The statement of accounts showed. receipts by way of donations £l7 17s, proceeds of catering for the seven-a-side tourney £l9, subscriptions and insurances for seniors, junior s and fourths, £l9; proceeds of ball, £29; rebate from .senior gates. £l9 and subscriptions towards building fund £6 4s. Expenditure, v'as chiefly accounted for under the following headings: Affiliation fee £3 3s, flood lights at the park £3 10s, light at training shed £5, advertising £3 Is and transport £44 5s fid.
