ODDFELLOWS’ TRANSFER
MEDICAL EXAMINATION. ELIMINATION SUPPORTED. The Taranaki district conCerenee of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows yesterday discussed the question of eliminating the necessity of medical examination of friendly society members when transferring from one lodge to another. The remit was moved by the Eltliam deputies and after consideration the matter was left in tho hands of the management committee for concerted action.
The Eltham deputies pointed out cases where men who had paid their dues for 20 years or more and who removed to another district were heavily penalised, one or two speakers suggested that as the cases mentioned were obviously local to Eltham, that lodge should deal with them. “This is a vital question affecting every lodge,’’ said Bro. W. Marr. Some efforts should be made, he suggested, for lodges to co-operate in approaching the question and to gain greater power thereby. “If the scheme outlined in the remit were made Dominion-wide it would prove of inestiimlble ibeliefit,” said Bro. E. G. Woodley, Eltham. Bro. R. S. Sage said that the Hawera scheme of benefit was as good as any. People all over the North Island were still benefiting.
