COMMERCIAL EXAMINATIONS

CERTIFICATES PRESENTED AT CONVENT SCHOOL.

On Wednesday afternoon the Hawera Convent School was visited by representatives of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce, Mr E. K. Cameron, Mi- B. McCarthy and Mr R. S. Sage, for the purpose of distributing the certificates won at the examinations held in November last. Mr Cameron, in a speech, congratulated the candidates upon their splendid achievements, especially those who had gained distinction. He also congratulated the Sisters, who had bestowed much care and attention upon the pupils in preparing them for the examinations. The commercial passes of the school were second to none, as the business people of the town were well aware. Mr McCarthy in a short speech, endorsed the remarks of Mr Cameron. Miss Junne Goodwill, on behalf of the Sisters and candidates, delivered a neat speech of thanks, which was heartily applauded. The certificates presented were as follow :

Typewriting (junior) : Peggy Brown, Norah Doyle, Eileen Garvey, Barclay Harrington, Jack Walsh, Sheila O’Brien, Cecilia Brady, Barbara Foy. Shorthand theory (pass with distinction) : Oecilia. Brady , Norah T>oyle ; (pass) Barbara Foy, Sheila. O’Brien.
