EGMONT DOG TRIALS

SPECIAL PRIZE AWARDS. SCOTT CUP WON OUTRIGHT. With the finalising of three events at the Egmont dog trials at Taiporohenui several special prizes and trophies have been awarded. The special prizes for competitors who had not. won. a first or ..second ..prize in any event, * ran iii* Cqnjunctiohwith the. maiden event, were won by W. O’Connor, Ararata, with Roy, which scored 40 points and took £2, and Glyn Williams, Manaia, with his dog, which scored 36 points and took £l. D. Daw, who occupied' sixth equal place in the maiden, scoring 38 points with Pete, secured Wright, Stephenson and Co.’s special trophy for the youngest competitor. M. M. Scott (Waverley) won outright the Scott Challenge Cup for dog scoring most points in the huntaway. The trophy has been competed for since 1920. Mr Scott also won it in 1924 and 1928 with Nell. W. V. Mclntyre (Waitui) who finished fourth, had two previous wins to his credit with Donald Bruce in 1926 and 1932. There were 43 competitors in the long head, the result of which appeared in yesterday’s “Hawera Star.” The winner, W. V. Mclntyre, dropped only two points from the xiossible. The winner put up a good performance as the course was not easy. The dog had to run across the flat, along the side of a hill on to the face of another hill and head the sheep, which were let out on the top of the hill. The sheep had to be pulled down the hill, a slip being in the centre of the fairway, and across the flat to be held in the ring. There were 46 competitors m the short head and yard, which commenced yesterday afternoon. The event will be concluded to-day.

LEVY TO CONTINUE.

PURCHASE OF TRIAD CUPS.

The Taranaki Dog Trial Centre yesterday decided to. continue the levy imposed on winning competitors at dog trials throughout the centre .until the close of the present circuit of centre .championship meetings after Waihi, Whangamomona and Okoke have held the centre championships. The levy is imposed in order to enable clubs conducting the centre championship meetings to purchase a. cup for each event. At the next annual meeting of the centre the question of reducing the levy will be considered. Competitors from outside the Taranaki centre will also be able to compete for the cups. Those present at the meeting were Messrs H. R. Scott (Egmont), president, in the chair, J. Edwin (WaihiWaitara), Fraser Smith (Awakmo), W. V. Melntvre (Tarata), J- Scott (Cape Egmont)/ W. Murphy (Whanaamomona), A. C. Gibbs (Mangaehu), H. V. Gower (Eltham-Takou) and P. K. Brown (Eltliam-Takou) hon. secretary. Last June a special meeting of centre delegates passed a resolution to the effect that each club was to deduct o per cent, from the prize money from competitors winning first place ana -2 per cent, from those securing minor place money to provide a fund cor- purchasing championship cups. s 1 championship could, not he held by • competitor from outside Taranaki, such a competitor was not eligible for the cup, though he could win the hist prize money and have to contribute his 5 Per cent, to the purchase of the cups. The special meeting was held at the request of the Eltham-Takou club, which forwarded a motion objecting to the continuation o: the levy.
