HAWERA TRACK NOTES

THIS MORNING’S WQRK NEW PLYMOUTH SK£PAS4TIONS BAIN SOFTENS TRACKS (By “Childers.”) Heavy rain' during the last few days has deadened the training tracks at Hawera and the going for this morning’s work was decidedly soft and slow. All galloping was executed bn. the trial grass. 1 The horses which raced at Mapawatu last week are still haying ap easy time, hut with the New Flyrnoiith meeting scarcely more than a fortnight distant galloping" wiil recommencc' in earnest within the next few days. Golden Half (G'rylls) and Friesland (Monkley) were together at the close of half a mile in fiisec. Golden Hair now appears to be making better progress. Autumn Leaf (Mills) and’ Harvest Moon (Cole) finished ’together oyer half a mile in 53sec.

Cynical Kid strode along boldly in a working gallop.

Passing Fancy (Cook) sprinted home the last two furlongs of' half a mile in 26sec. She has gone on the right way since winning at Opunake and should be in excellent fettle for the Taranaki and Easter meetings.

Tho Colossus —Lady gelding (Ciiote) 'sprinted ilfree ‘ furlongs alone in 4-§sce> moving attractively. He is shaping most promisingly. ° Silver'Wings (Cook) just shaded the Cynic—Solemnity gelding' (Dombroski) at the finish of half a mile in a tick under 53sec. The Cynic gelding made a very bold showing and undoubtedly possesses an excellent turn of speed. Waitaunaha (Sheildj and Gold Gleam (Cook) were associated over a round at working gallop pace. Owner-Trainer B. La Popple hopes to race Waitaunaha during the winter and, although he is now rather in the veteran stages, the Taunaha' gliding may pick up a steeplechase provided he remains sound. He will probably be qualified as a hunter shortly.

Fairfax (Duncan) was given barrier practice, leaving the mark in excellent style.

Most of J. Fryer’s big team were exercised on the roads.

MENTONE MEETING. 'United P,rees Asaoctatton— 6y Etectrto Telegraph ' Copyrights MELB’OTJKNE, March 27. At the Mentone races to-day First Money and'Sir Nigel were' unplaced an thy Meritone Platb. Golden Horn, was unplaced ■ ixi the Mentone Purse and Gold Trail was unplaced in the Welter Mile.
