PLAIN SPEAKING
Expectation in Anglo=Australian Meat Import Negotiations NEW ZEALAND’S TRUMP CARD FAVOURABLE TREATMENT (United Vreas Association—By EJectrio Telegraph Copyright). Received 2.30 p.m. to-day. LONDON, March 26. The Australian. Press Association says that plain speaking is expected in next week's negotiation between the British Government and the Australian meat delegation. The Australian delegation will be fully armed to meet the British contention that Article 10 of the Ottawa Agreement has not been fully implemented. The British objections in this connection would be met by a general statement on the process of the mitigation Qf tantis against Britain by the Tariff Board’s inquiries. Should the British negotiations, remain unsatisfied, the delegation will produce detailed evidence of Australia’s' efforts to implement Article 10.
There is now a further appreciation of the part fiscal relations will play in the negotiations. It is already clear that New Zealand will play for favourable treatment of British goods as her trump card in the meat discussions with the object of inducing the British Government to bring a corresponding argument to bear on other Dominions.
There is no immediate activity in the Anglo-New Zealand negotiations. Sir James Parr continues to watch the situation pending the arrival of the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes. Sir James Parr and others presumably will attend when the scope of the Anglo-Australian negotiations brings in the interests of other dominions.
