STORY BEHIND CRIME

SHOOTING OF TWO WOMEN COOTAMUNDRA TRAGEDY POLICE VIEW OF CASE. (■United Frees Electric lelegrapD Oopynpht.), SYDNEY, March 2G. Detectives investigating the. shooting of two young women near Cootamundra yesterday were unable fo gain much information, but they are convinced there is a remarkable story behind the crime. The wounded girl is Miss Dulcie Tenzer, aged 22 years. She "was until recently employed by a pastoral newspaper printed at Sydney, but she resigned last week and went to visit her home. The dead girl is Miss Yvonne Officer, aged 25 years. The pair were driving in a motor car to Cootamundra when, according to Miss Tenzer, her attention was directed to a flock of sheep. She turned her head and was immediately shot behind the right ear, the bullet emerging from the opposite side of her face near ! the nose. She then saw Miss Officer level the revolver at her own head. The bullet shattered her temple and Miss Officer died immediately. Miss Tenzer, despite her condition, left the car and walked several miles to a homestead. She gasped out brief details of the tragedy' and collapsed. Since then her condition has been grave. The police found Miss Officer's body in the driver’s seat of the car. A revolver with four live bullets was between her overcoat and her dress. The police discovered a torn cheque for £2O beside the car, which is expected to throw some light on the crime. Miss Tenzer had announced her impending marriage to a relative of Miss Officer, but Miss Officer's parents declare Miss Tenzer was only joking. Miss Officer was a competent horsewoman and had entertained a great deal at Sydney. Where the car was found was eight miles off the road which Miss Officer should have taken to roach Cootamundra. .
