Eventually she came to Pasadena and appeared with the Community Playhouse there. :
She was tested by Universal Studios and placed under contract on February 5, 1932.' Since that time she has appeared in more, than a score of productions, including “The Invisible Man-,” • ‘ Beloved,” ‘‘l Lilcc It That Wav,’ “I’ll Tell the World,’?'with Lee Tracy, “The ;Love Captive,” and “Hey, Sailor!” with James Cagney. She was recently married to Arthur Sheekman. 1
‘ ‘ Schnozzle” Durante.
Jimmy ‘ ‘Schnozzle” Durante, who is featured in Paramount’s “The Phantom President,” which will commence a twonight season at the Grand Theatre on Saturday, was born on the Lower East Side, in New York, and educated in pool-rooms, corner cigar .stands, and blaCk alleys. When he found it necessary to go to work, as he did when he was quite young, he decided to go on the stage. His start was singing roustabout songs in roustabout “ joints on the Bowery. He migrated soon to Brooklyn beer halls, and picked up extra pennies singing 'here at a church charity or there at a lodge benefit.
Somewhere along the route lie annexed -Lou Clayton, and Eddie Jackson, making tne team of Clayton, Jackson and ; .Durante. Vaudeville and musical comedy skyrocketed them to fame and fortune, and the movies were not long in following, with lucrative contracts for Jimmy.
