SAWMILL DESTROYED
THOUSANDS OF POUNDS LOSS. HUNDRED MEN IDLE. (by 4.e?egrapi3— Tretss Association.) TAUMARUNUI, To-day. A blaze which was seen for miles around last night destroyed the Taringamotu-Totara Sawmill Company’s mil] at Taringamotu, near Taumarunui. The planing mill, breaking down mill and other buildings wiHe destroyed. The mill was one of the most up-to-date in the district, and the damage runs into thousands of pounds. One hundred men will be rendered idle by the blaze. The fire started in the planing shed at about 8 o’clock, and within half an hour had swept from end to end of the mill. Fire fighting appliances were burnt before they could be removed from the planing shed. ■ Numerous mill houses and thousands of feet of stacked timber, which surrounded the mill, were saved by a favourable breeze.
