HAWERA COUNTY COUNCIL
NORMANBY MERGER PLAN. COMMISSIONER IN APRIL. Mr F. H. Waters, Commissioner of Crown Lands, New Plymouth, advised the Haw era County Council at a meeting this morning that he would be able to act as commissioner in connection with ,tlie petition for merging; the Normanby Town district with the Hawera county. The chairman reported that the commission would) sit some time in April. The chairman (Cr. J. B. Murdoch) presided and also present were Crs. E. A. Washer, A. E. Dea,th, T. A. Winks, W. Rothery, J. Lander and A. G. Larcom ENGINEER’S REPORT.
The acting-engineer (Mr F. Muggeridge) reported that tl&ring the month good progress lva-s made with the excavation work on the north side of the Tangahoe deviation, but work was stopped on February 25 to transfer the men to open up a section of the Morea lioad.
The relief workers at present were employed in cutting off points on the Manawapou Hill. As soon as this work was completed it was proposed to carry on the deviation work.
Further progress had been made with the Mawliitiwhiti deviation, the work in the cutting and on the filling being well advanced. The beach gang had been transferred from the beach to quarry gravel jjfcom Batten’s pit for use Jon the shoulders of the Oliangai Road. This work was now in hand. Resealing work was done as follows: Boylan Road 84 chains, Austin Road 50 chains, Ketemarae 35 chains and Skeet 30 chains. Bitumen patching was attended to on Ahaipaipa, Scott, Division, Fraser and Hastings roads. The bridge carpenter had completed the concrete abutments on the Morea stream bridge and was now engaged in repairing the Tangahoe ■stream bridge on the Ohangai Road. This work would be completed to-day. The estimated cost of kerbing, channelling, eulverting and sealing footpaths on Princes Street extension was £402 10s 4d. Mr A. C. Gower, on behalf of the settlers in the Wlienuakura Valley Road, Omoana, made application for the clearance of slips which blocked the road. This blockage caused considerable inconvenience as the road was used a great deal by the residents in that locality.—The settlers were given permission to work off their rates in the clearing of the slips. _ A complaint was received from a resident of Ohawe that motorists were parking their cars at the beach in such a manner as to obstruct any traffic to or from the reserves. The letter requested that a notice be erected on the county road! advising motorists of the offence.—The matter was left in the hands of the chairman to report.
