HAWERA PROPERTY SALES
TWO DEALS IN HIGH STREET. PLANS FOR DEPARTMENT STORE. . Two well-known properties ill High Street, Hawera, have changed hands as the result of negotiations during the past few days. In one jease it is eer_ tain that a new building will be erected, while in the other case, although plans have not been finalised, it is expected that building will take place. Messrs J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., of Wellington, have acquired the property at present occupied by AVestaway arid Co., drapers and ladies’ outfitters. It is pro. posed to erect a modern department store. The property is owned by the estate of the late Mr M. J. O’Donnell. It has not changed hands for about 40 years. The other deal affects the property owned by Taranaki Amusements, Ltd., on which are situated the shops of the Vienna Bakery, a Hindu fruiterer and the offices of the Aard Motor Service. Messrs C. C. Ward, Ltd., drapers, have made an offer to Taranaki Amusements, Ltd., and this lias been accepted. Taranaki Amusements, Ltd., had previously intended to erect a theatre on the property, but this idea was abandoned.
