Auroa Branch Meets
There was an attendance of 37 members at the monthly meeting of the Auroa branch of the Women’s Division on Wednesday afternoon when considerable business was first transacted and tho following remits passed for conference:
“That the Government should subsidise the cost of bus transport for country pupils to secondary schools. “That the fortnight’s holiday given i in May should be granted instead in June.” “That arrangements be made whereby maternity fees can be reduced and so brought within the reach of payment by those struggling through this depression.” Votes of sympathy were accorded Mrs Woodliead and Mrs Symes in their bereavements and to. Mrs- Deegau and Mrs Schwieters in sickness in their families. Arrangements were made tor a< bring and buy afternoon in April and a mothers’ afternoon in May. Demonstrations in quilting and tatting were given by Miss O’. Blake, of Hawera, and Mrs Cleaver respectively. Beautiful samples were displayed of quilted coa,t-hangers, scent satchets, a pet pourri satchet, handbags, dressing gowns, cushions, quilts and even a costume.
