MORE APPLES WANTED.
SHIPPING MAN’S PLEA.

An appeal to Dominion exporters to make ivider use of. the facilities offered by the port of Bristol was. made- by Mr. CL Hartly Hodder at. a luncheon of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. Mr. ;H.odder, who is a member of the English shipping firm of Janies and Hodder, is president of the British Incorporated Chamber of Commerce and Shipping and a member and former vice-chairman of the Port of Bristol Authority. Mr. Hodder asked for closer co-oper-ation between Chambers of Commerce in England arid New Zealand. Tho Bristol Chamber of Commerce was particularly interested in produce from New'Zealand, and last year it held ; a very large arid successful show of fruit and produce, from the Dominions and especially from New .Zealand, v “I must corigratulate you on the way you are grading your fruit,” said Mr. Hodder. . “Some years ago the grading was not good, but-,.you have led the way, arid we consider in Kpglarid that your grading is absolutely splendid, and we only hope, it will bri continued. We could do with 30 .ririr cent, or 40 per cent, more apples thaii we are getting through the port -of Bristol to-day, nnd .I hope your aforiegrowors ’association will be able to tell rile why it is that riiore are not sent. Our people are 1 most anxious to get your fruit.”. Mr. Hodder said Bristol was getting about 2S ships a year from New Zealand, arid It could do with one every week. , . , ..
