BANK CLERK WHO FORGOT KEY
LONDON, Feb. 23. Special squads of police were rushed to the Central Employment Exchange buildings, Glasgow, to prevent a serious disturbance among more than 1000 men who were clamouring for the payment of their dole. There had been a delay in the payment, and the men, unaware of the cause, became impatient. A bank clerk, the guardian of the money allocated for unemployment benefit, had over-slept, and in his dash to the office in the morning had forgotten to take the key of The safe which contained the money. Officials of the employment exchange waited in the bank while the clerk returned to his home for the key, and in the meantime the unemployed yelled and stamped their feet. One of the exchange clerks then telephoned for the police, who assured the meii . that their liiohey would ue forthcoming. There was a fresh commotion im-
mediately afterwards when one of the crowd suddenly pulled from his pocket a bottle, drank from it, and after running a. few yards collapsed. “When the dole money arrived the 6r6ti-d ddfched towards the counters po vi£<&6u&lj i . that ohe hUh complained of harin£ his. arm severely crushed.
