BONELESS VEAL EXPORT

TOO. MUCH SECRECY ALLEGED

‘FARMERS HAVE BEEN ROBBED’

The provincial executive of the South Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union voiced a strong protest this morning on the “secrecy” which had been maintained! by the Government in connection with the export of bobby calves. A resolution was passed that in view of the intense dissatisfaction existing among dairy farmers, the Government be asked to lay on the table of the House all the correspondence relating to the negotiations with the British Government in connection with the imposing of the embargo on the export of bobby calves. It was decided to make the application through Messrs C. A. Wilkinson, H. G. Dickie and W. J. Poison, M’s.P. The matter was raised by Mr A. B. Muggeridge (Alton), who said that the embargo had' been imposed and then lifted without the farmers having any knowledge of what was happening. “The farmer lias been robbed,” said Mr W. A. It was this aspect of the situation which prompted Mr Sheat to remark that the farmer had been robbed.
