iShrove Tuesday, a day of ancient religious significance, which is still observed in many parts of the United Kingdom, 'fell yesterday. The celebration nowadays is usually associated with the tossing of pancackes. This ceremony is still performed at Westminster School, London, where the cook tosses a pancake over the bar which separates the Upper from the Lower School. A selected group of athletes struggle for the cake, and the lad who secures the largest piece is rewarded with a guinea by the dean.
