HAWERA MALE CHOIR

YEAR’S ACTIVITIES.

ELECTION* OE OFFICERS

The report submitted at the annua] meeting of the Hawera Male Choir on Monday night stated that the 1934 year, though difficult like its predecessors, had shown an improvement in the state of the choir’s financial position. 'l^his was brought about largely by rigid economy, by generous assistance from visiting artists (Miss X. Whallcy and Messrs W. E. Grewes and Harison Cook) and of many other kind friends.

Air J. AV. Velvin presided and there was a fair attendance of members. An apology was received from Air J. E. Campbell (Mayor of Hawera). The committee added that if the choir members would take a more active interest individually in the choir’s affairs each trying to obtain one more active member or subscriber, the choir would very soon be out of its difficulties.

"A tribute was paid to Airs Quin and her choir of ladies and to Miss Kathleen Fairhall and her orchestra, to Mr T. B. AlcConnell, and Mr R. F. Page, honorary conductors during the year ,to Air J. C. Smith, for his very generous loan of a room for practises, and also to Air Ei. Dixon for loan of piano, and AJisses Eaton and Gilmore for taking charge of the booking of seats.

The hope was expressed that more young members would join the choir so that the work to be done would be improved and the concerts made still more enjoyable. In conclusion, the committee appealed to the public for support in their enterprise of giving tho best programmes possible and enlisting the service of high class artists. The election of officers resulted as follow: Patron, Mr H. G. Dickie, M.iP.; president, Air J. C. Smith; vice-president, Air J. AV. Velvin; secretaries and treasurers, >Alessrs G. H. Buckeridge and J. Gabbie; auditor, Mr AV. j. AVoods; librarian, Mr C. L. Sharpe; committee, Messrs G. H. Westwood, A. Alorris and J. AV. Harding. The competitions committee was re-elected, with the addition of Air G. H. Percy.

The resignation of Air T. B. AlcConnell as conductor was received with regret and it was left to the committee to deal with the matter of future arrangements: A vote of thanks was passed to Air H. '.Chadwick special worjk done for the choir, to the secretary of the competitions, the librarian and the Press. A vote of thanks to "the chair concluded the meeting.
