WILLS LEADS KINO’S FORTY THREE TARANAKI COMPETITORS CONGEEiVE WINS AGGEFiGATE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TEENTHAM, March 5. The championship series of matches from which is determined the 40 highest aggregates scorers to fire in the final match for the King’s Prize was completed at the national rifle meeting at Trentham to-day. The leading positions in the King’s Forty is occupied by A. E. Wills (Invercargill) with 421 out of a possible of 450. The next highest score was 418, made by F. Bowes (Auckland City)> With his three point lead 47 for his final 10 rounds at 900 yards would make Wills sure of the champion belt. The third, fourth and fifth places are filled by L. G. Benton (Featherston), F. H. James (Napier) ai.J A. if. O’Donnell (Petone), each with 416. The championship shooting was resumed halfway through the morning, following the competition of .in extra match of seven rounds at 800 yards, for which there were 41 prizes, totalling £lB.

Throughout the early afternoon conditions were much the same, but towards the end of the day, the l ree.ze freshened from the south and more windage allowance was required than on any previous occasion during the meeting. Four marksmen had aggregates of 235 out of a oossihie or 250 to gain the leading places in the Australian' aggregate, which' us awarded for the highest scores in the Canterbury, Wellington and Auckland matches. With his consistent shooting in the long range belt matches, R. Congreve (Old Navals) won the Bisley aggregate with 193 out of a possible 200. His loss of seven points for the three matches comprising the Bisley was markmanship of the highest order. The next highest scores were 189 registered by Wills and Benton. The winner of the rifle club champion teams, which is based on all scores in belt matches except the final 10 shots, was wofn by the Napier team, the members of which were F. 1 !H. James, L. H. Proffitt, R. Nichol- [ son and J. H. Kearney. Their aggregate scores totalled 1633. The team wins the Petone Rifle Clu?> champion aggregate shield and each member of the team receives a miniature silver cup. Auckland City had the second highest score with 1629 and Petone No. 1 team finished third with 1613. The Auckland match was won by Congreve with 98. J. C. Feast (Greytown) was second with 95. The C.A.C. Cup for the highest team scores in all range belt matches except the final ten shots was won by Napier with 709. Auckland City was second with 709 and Featherston third with 708.

The winner of the Witcombe and Caldwell match was C. B. Benton (Okato) with 48. The prize lists for these two matches had not been compiled when the telegraph office closed The following marksmen will fire off to-morrow afternoon for the King’s Prize: A. R.
