The first tragedy associated with big game fishing on the South Coast occurred at Narooma to-day when a big passenger launch capsized on -the bar and John Donaldson, a journalist, on the staff of the Herald/Melbourne, was drowned.

Three other men, after searching for Donaldson in shark-infested waters managed to swim ashore. Donaldson had been sent from Melbourne by his paper to provide first-hand stories of the hunt for swordfish and sharks. He immediately disappeared when the launch capsized. A Sydney cable dated February 14 stated' that the development of big game fishing as a tourist attraction along the lines adopted in New Zealand was engaging the attention of the New South Wales Government Tourist Bureau. A number of swordfish and marlin had recently been caught on the South Coast in the vicinity of Narooma Heads, Montague Island and Port Stephens.
