Gazette notice confirms the reappointment of Messrs P. Thomson (chairman), R. A. Wilson and' j. C. Rolleston as district licensing authority for No. 5 Transport District. The term of appointment is until February 28, 1936. An early settler of the Pukearuhe district, Mrs Laura Mary Freeth, died at New Plymouth yesterday. 'I he youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Sole, Mrs. Freeth was •wellknown at New Plymouth and shortly after her marriage to Mr. W. J. Freeth, removed to Pukearuhe where she took a keen interest in every movement for the advancement of the district. During the war she. was a very active patriotic worker and of late years was prominent in the Women’s Division Farmers’ Union movement. Mrs. Freeth is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Weeden, Pukearuhe, and Miss Kestha Freeth, Pukearuhe. There are also two brothers, Messrs Gus and 0. W. Sole, New Plymouth, and three sisters, Mesdames H. Street (Taumarunui), C. Hill (Wanganui) and R. H. Pigott (Urenui). At the age of 43 years the death occurred in a Wellington private hospital yesterday of the Rev. Father Daniel McLaughlin, parish priest at Stratford for the past seven years. He was born at Pa tea in 1891 and received his secondary education at Mosgiel College. After his ordination in 1916 he was assistant priest at Patea for about a year beTore his appointment as parish priest at Takapau. After three years’ service at Takapau he was a professor at Mosgiel College for four years. Following his professorship, he was parish priest at Marton for four years before being appointed to Stratford. In 1933 his health failed and he spent a prolonged leave in Queensland. On his return to Stratford his health was much improved. He became seriously ill a few weeks ago. Both his parents predeceased him, \but two brothers, Messrs A. and P. J. McLaughlin, and a sister, Rose, live at Rawhitiroa.
