ELTHAM DENTAL CLINIC
COMMITTEE ANNUAL MEETING RESIGNATION OF NURSE. The annual meeting of the Klthnm Dental Clinic committee was held in the school meeting .room on Monday evening. The secretary, Mr. Deneheld, reported that the balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £2O 16s Bd, receipts totalling £65 2s 3d and' expenditure £44 os od. The actingchairman, Mr. C. AY. Carlson, said that it appeared as though the clinic could carry on with about £2O per annum. The secretary reported that lie bad interviewed the dental superintendent,. and believed that the committee would not be asked to pay the department the usual fees while the clinic was closed owing to the absence of the nurse. Mr. J. Thomas (Ngaere) urged that
for t'hc better working of the clinic, all levies should be paid by March 31. It was decided to forward a list of all financial schools represented on the clinic. Jt was also decided to advise the Te Kiri school that, as the children had paid their fees last year am had not received the treatment, they would only be charged Is 3d this year. The following officers were elected for the year: Chairman, Mr. C. \V. Carlson; secretary, Mr. A. E. Benefield ; committee, Messrs L. Prankerd and F. Muggeridge. The nurse’s report stated that the following work was done during the quarter : Fillings 47, permanent teeth 38, deciduous teeth 14, extractions 17, cleaning and scaling 4. Eighty-four fillings other than chairside were carried out. The patients examined numbered 57, from the following schools • Elthnm 16, Kaponga Convent 14, Eltham Convent 5, Pukengahu 5, Ngaore 10, Mahoc 4, not stated 5. A letter was received from the dental clinic superintendent stating that the nurse could not he replaced during absence through sickness owing to the shortage of dental nurses. Mr. Thomas said the prolonged absence of the nurse caused great dissatisfaction, and if the present course were followed it would mean the breaking down of the dental clinic system. The fault law with the department in. not making provision for a relieving nurse. It was finally resolved that, owing to the serious disorganisation of the clinic owing to the absence of the nurse, the department be asked that.
in future tliey take steps to ensure • that a relieving nurse he available. The resignation of Nurse Welch was accepted with regret and a motion was passed that appreciation of her services should be placed on record.
