“Takes Some Drumming into Heads of Dominions” MR THOMAS IN JOCULAR MOOD TRIBUTE TO NEW GOVERNOR (United rreos association—By Electric Telegraph
Copyright). Received 10 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Feb. 26. Jocularly retorting to Sir James Parr’s tribute to his impartial chairmanship at the meat discussions, Mr. J. H. Thomas, the Dominions Secretary, presiding at a farewell luncheon to Viscount and Lady Galway by the British Empire and kindred, societies, said: “It takes some drumming into t)ie heads of the Dominioners that there is such a thing as British agritulture.”
“My advice to Lord Galway is to refrain from discussing meat with wily Now Zealand politicians. Lord Galway is a great public figure, and a soldier. He began his political career simultaneously with myself. The nation has benefited by my services, and New Zealand is now benefiting from Lord Galway’s.”
Lord Galway explained that he did not regard his appointment as Gov-ernor-General as an adventure, but merely as leaving one home for another. Ho paid ai tribute to New Zealand’s maintenance of Imperial tradition. The guests included Lord and Lady Liverpool, Lord and Lady Allenby, Lord and Lady Jollicoe and the Marquis of Crewe.
