INSTALLATION AT DAWSON FALLS

SOUTH COMMITTEE’S INTENTION

The installation of fire-fighting apparatus at the Dawson Falls mountain house was decided upon yesterday by the South Committee of the Egmont National Park Board. The work will cost from £37 tc £4O and the expense will be met from an overdraft of £2OO which the committee intends to raise for improvement work. The committee has been concerned for some time at the lack of suitable apparatus and in addition to the risk a good deal of outlay has been necessary for insurance premiums. It is expected that the installation will bnng about a saving cf 25 per cent, in annual premiums. The committee already has a good deal of equipment in hand and the guaranteed pressure of 801 b to tho square inch will give tho fire-fighting equipment a good foundation in tho possible saving of buildings. Three leads ,cach 100 feet long, will bo installed, one at the rear, one at tho front of the hostel and the other near the old camp house. One and a halfinch mains will he used. He had approached the insurance company with a proposition for a reduction in premium, said Mr L. O. Hooker (secretary). The company liad quoted premiums, giving savings of £9 14s on £39 provided the necessary equipment was installed. In anticipation of the committee doing the work. Mr Hooker said he arranged with the insurance company to give the reduction this rear when the premium fell due. A cover of £4OO had been effected on the hydro plant and building.
