SEASIDE IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Patea Seaside Improvement Society was held on Monday, Mr T. Scott presiding. It was reported that an area with a river frontage of about 150 yards has been made available to the society by the harbour board for sites for boat sheds if required. The chairman reported that the plans and specifications of a dwelling to be erected on the society’s leasehold area had been submitted to the borougl\ council, which had referred it back to the society. The society’s approval was given and the application for a section granted. Mr Boagey reported that despite tfce drought a large number of the trees recently planted in the plantation were doing well. It was considered that the growing of trees and shrubs by the residents should receive more encouragement. Payment for the caretaker of the pavilion for a further period was authorised/

MISS A. HUSTON FAREWELLED. The Presbyterian Church, was well fijled yon iTuesduaja evening when a, social farewell was tendered to Miss A. Huston, who is leaving this week for Auckland, where she will train as a Karitane nurse. During the evening the following items were enjoyed: Song, Mrs F. Lund; recitation, Miss J. Spur die; song, Miss J. Cowie; violin solo, Miss L. Sutherland; song, Mrs McDonald; Miss G. Hall was accompaniste. At the conclusion of the programme tlTe Rev. H. B. Burnett, on behalf of the congregation, presented Miss Huston with a xylonite toilet set. Mr Burnett said Miss Huston was a true daughter of her parents, for wherever he had gone among the people be had beard of the wonderful work they had done for the church, and it was pleasing to see her carrying on their work. Miss Huston, who was received with applause, said all she had done she considered was her duty as a member of the church. She would carry many hnppv memories with her and would alwavs look on Patea as home. She thanked all for the handsome gift. A daintv supper was served, alter which the Rev. \V. H. Walton on behalf of the Church of England and Rev. AY. H. Wilson, on behalf ot the Methodist Church, thanked Miss Huston for her valuable service so freely given at all times. The evening closed with a prayer and 1 the benediction.
