TEACHERS’ APPOINTMENTS

BOARD'S MONTHLY MEETING.

Those present at the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board at New Plymouth yesterday were Messrs .T. A. Valentine (chairman), .T. C. Barclay, F. A. Lee, W. H. .Tones, T. ,T. Griffin and Dr. A\ r . M. Thomson. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs .T. McAllister and AY. A\\ Thomson.

The teachers selection committee, Mr T. J. Griffin, Dr. AV. M. Thomson and Mr J. A. ALnlentine, recommended that the following appointments be confirmed: —

Miss Jean Bannerman, assistant, Tikorangi.

* A. F. Ellis, headteacher, Raekoliua. G. Gernlioefer, sole teacher, Tatu. N. S. Lovegrove, assistant, Inglewood.

The transfer of Mr J. A. Jennings from Everett to Derby Road was confirmed. The Huinga and Rawhitiroa school committees are to be informed that owing to the shortage of available teachers, it is impossible to appoint an additional assistant. The position of sole teacher at Rauateiti will be advertised as suitable only for a male teacher. The Everett Road school attendance was reported to have fallen to twelve.

It was recommended that Mrs Finch, be transferred to tMokoia and Mr Kibblcwhite be transferred from Mokoia to Te Roti and that in accordance with the department’s regulations, Mrs C. H. (Short is to be transferred to Hillsborough to Lower Mangorei. Owing to the fall in grade of Uruti, Mr 0-. H. Short is to b etransferred to Tahora and owing to the rise in grade of Purangi, Mr F. Turner is to be transferred to TJruti. Miss T. Simpson, overscale teacher at AA r estown, js to be transferred to Hawera to the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs Roberts.

After consultation with the senior inspector, the following appointments were given effect to: Ararata, headteacher, Miss Jane Stevenson; Kiritehere, sole teacher, Miss Annie C. Sharkey; Mokoia, assistant, Miss Linda AVooldridge; AYaitara, assistant, specialist in music, Miss Bertille A. McGreevy.

It was reported that Miss D. AValker, whose appointment at Fitzroy had terminated, had received a position in the AYellington district.

The application of J. Shaw for transfer from Pukeho to Everett Road was acceded to.

Christoff el, sole teacher, Mangatoi; Miss K. M. Syms, infant mistress, Normanby; .Miss L. D. Brooker, rationed teacher; Miss J. McNeill, rationed teacher. The architect (Mr C. H. Moore) reported that the department notified that its policy of no increase in conveyance costs had been relaxed and the supervisor was authorised to report in cases where the centres were crowded. The supervisor’s action in arranging for a dress-making class at Manaia District High School and the application to the department for better sewing machine accommodation for both Opunako and Manaia secondary departments was approved. Miss N. Neville was appointed rationed thacher to as-1 sist the instrucors at the New Plfmouth domestic science centre. It was decided that the headmaster at Opunake be permitted to use the woodwork room for class purposes.

Applications for holidays were granted as follows: March 20, South Taranaki Primary Schools’ Association Dixon banner competition; February 27 and 28, Ohura A., P., H. and I. Association; March 7, Taranaki A. and P. Association.
