The convention of the New Zealand Society of Accountants was continued with the Mayor, Mr G. AV. Hutchison, president for the day. Papers were given by Dr E. Marsden and Mr E. T. Spidy, dealing with different aspects of the development of secondary industries in New Zealand.
In the ensuing discussion views from outside the profession were given by Messrs J. A. C. Allum, preident of the Manufacturers’ Association, F. N. Ambler, vice-president, and Mr G. AA T . Thomson, secretary of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. In moving the adoption of the annual report, the president, Mr H. A r alentine, said that during the year the membership of the society had increased. 1 to 2319, or by 415 members, and was now higher than at any previous time. The fact that close on 200 students were now qualifying annually for admission to the society was sufficient answer to the criticism that by setting unduly high standards in its examinations the society was endeavouring to create a close corporation.

Spence; AVellington, Mr S. E. Lambert; Canterbury, Mr A. AV. Smith: Otago, Mr J. A\ r . Smeaton; Southland, Mr J. B. Beid. The election in the Auckland district had resulted in the return of Mr J. M. Elliffe.
