Arrangements in connection with the West Coast (North Island) Amateur Athletic Centre championships, to be held on Saturday, were considered at a meeting of the Taranaki sub-centre last night/ Those present were Messrs A G. Whiting (chairman) and 11. E. Thomas (Eltham), T. It. Overton (Hawera) O. J. Cummings (Patea), J. \\ • Hollows (New Plymouth A.A. and Q.C..) C. 11. Croker, A. S. Huntef and J. E. Warner (New Plymouth Harriers), D. A. Benjamin, L. Wynyard and W. B. Ireland, hon. secretary (Stratford). The following officials were appointed to control the championships: Referee, Mr. C. R. White (Wanganui); manager, Mr. W. Illicketts (Taranaki) ; inspectors, Messrs T. Bennett, H. Cullen, O. M. Lindop, J. M. Stephens, F. Tilly, R. Tyror, H. Hastings, H. Mancerclerk,of course, Mr. J. .AY . Hollows; assistant clerk, Mr. J. M. Bates; chief field judge, Air. R. LWvnyard; field judges, Messrs P. Linkiiorn, A. Weckes and S. Fookes; field scorers, Messrs J. Goss and R. E. Thomas; track judges, Messrs A. Grant (chief), A. C. Bourgeois, C. H. Croker, T. R. Overton, L. J. Fume, Dr. Fitzgerald; walking judge, Air. A. G. Whiting; cycling referee, Air. Leo Marter; timekeepers, Alcssrs G. Benson, J. Petrie, C. H. Stephenson, C. Patterson, F. Bowler, J. Keilar and L. H. Clapham; starter, Air. A. G. A suggestion that the sub-centre should send a recommendation to the centre that steps be taken to form a fund to assist in sending track and cross-country teams to championships was' moved by Air. Hollows. It should not always rest with the clubs or club officials bo said, to provide transport; it became too heavy, particularly where the longer distances -were conzernod. He suggested a fund should be built up to provide for travelling. The clubs were responsible' for sending their teams to sub-centre championships, the sub-centre should be responsible for sending its teams* to the centre, and the centre for its team to the New Zealand championships.

A levy on all active club members was suggested by Air. Wynyard. Mr. Hollows moved that a sum of £4 be set aside to assist with the travelling expenses of the sub-centre reoresentatives in the centre team to the New Zealand championshipe. His motion was seconded pro forma by Air. Hunter.

He was not confident that the sub•:entre could afford to set aside £-1, ?aid Air. Croker. It had only £8 in credit, and he thought it should conserve its resources to the utmost justnow.

His view was supported by Air Wynvard, who said the centre should be in a good financial, position. The sub-centre was a provincial body said AH. D. A .Benjamin, houorary wco surer, and it was essential it should remain solvent. It Jiad to hold a certain reserve in the event of reverses next year, for instance.

While he appreciated the arcruments against his proposal, said Mr. Hollows,

and did not wish to drag down the sub-centre funds, he thought that, in view of the difficult times, the subcentre should give all the assistance it possibly coulfc. It would be only for this year that it would be necessary. The motion was lostj Mr. Hollows being its only supporter. Messrs Whiting, Crokcr, Overton, Wynyard and Ireland were appointed 'a sub-committee to discuss arrangements in connection with a centre picnic.
