SERIOUS FLOODING
Downpour at Greymouth Results in Heavy Damage
RAILWAY LINES INUNDATED MAIN ROADS BLOCKED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, To-day. Heavy Tain, since 5 a.m. yesterday has resulted in serious flooding damage, mainly south of Greymouth. The-Hokitika-Greymouth Road is blocked at Stafford through the creek breaking* its banks and flowing across the road. The Hokitika-Greymouth railway line is blocked at Hoho, there being several feet of water over the line. The Greymouth-Otira Road is blocked in three places. A large slip at Wainihinihi fell on the Tracey homestead, but the occupants were uninjured. A culvert was out at Neames and a large slip occurred on - the Turiwhata bluff. Debris was piled against the old Wainihinihi bridge, and possibly will damage the new structure if the old bridge gives way. The rails on the Hokitika railway bridge became shifted, and the RossHokitika train was taken back to Ross, as it was too dangerous to cross thq bridge. The Grey-Christchureh telegraph lines are faulty. Rain- continues at Greymouth, and 277 points have fallen in 24 hours.
