NINE INCHES OF RAIN FALLS. BRIDGES CARRIED AWAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HOKITIKA, To-day. A long drought was broken early on Tuesday morning, and by 9 o’clock this morning 9.67 inches of rain has fallen. The Hokitika river is in record flood. The bridge over the Hokitika river at Kanicri had a fifty feet span washed away just after a bus had crossed. a" bridge at Stafford is -washed out, and many reports of other damage are coming to hand. The rain has now ceased.
