STATE OF SWIMMING BATHS.
Sir.—Many parents would be consoled to read .the report in Saturday’s “Star” on the swimming bath s water by Mr. Veale and to learn of the greater interest now taken by the council in this very important public health institution. However, I cannot let the council get away with a halo behind such a pei'fect camouflage as sterility. Water may bo sterile, yet stagnant, as a mouthful of our baths water will prove at the end of a hot and busv week !
Something must be done to renew the water in the mid-week. lam so convinced of the value of bathing upon the public health, that any expense upon the baths is justifiable—even to, the duplication of the main. It is pitiable to reflect that Hawera, just at the base of such a reservoir ivs Mt. Egmout, remains in its water supply and its swimming baths so parsimonious and derelict.—l am, your s etc.,
