MANCHESTER UNITY LODGE! DISTRICT OFFICERS PRESENT (From Our Own Correspondent.) A welcome to visitors from Stratford, Manaia, 'Midhirst, Rahotu. loko, Eltham, Excelsior and Egmont Lodges was extended by N.G. Bro. F. Beresford, who presided at 'the: quarterly meeting of the Loyal Kaponga Lodge held at the Town Hall on Monday evening. Over one hundred members were present, ' including D.G.M. Bro. H. Bennett, D.D.G.M. Bro. O. Sherson, District Secretary, Bro. Bellringer and P.P.G.M.’s Marr, Dagg, Woodley, 8011-on and Melville. The meeting embraced the annual visit of the District Officers and the holding of the ritual competition. In his address to the Lodge, she District Grand Master, Bro. H._ Bennett traversed the working of the Order during the past twelve months, bringing to members a realisation of the great work being carried out by the Lodge. He referred briefly to the sick benefits distributed to members, pointing out the immense advantage of this to any district.
The District Secretary, Bro. Bell ringer, thanked the dodfee for the hearty welcome extended to the visiting officers and congratulated the lodge upon the sound financial position disclosed. He stated that Kaponga Lodge had higher interest earnings than any lodge in the district. The speaker, referred also to the Grand Conference recently held in England. Bro. Sherson, Deputy District Grand Master, congratulated the lodge upon the manner in which they had conducted the ritual ceremony. Bro. E. Snowden moved a hearty vote of thanks to the District Officers for their interesting addresses.
In calling upon the District G.M. to make a presentation to Bros. Marr, Melville, Dagg, Betts and McMillan, N.G. Bro. F. Beresford paid a tribute to the work of these members, stating that the lodge was greatly indebted to them for services given. In making the presentation Bro. Bennett said lie esteemed it a great privilege to make the presentations and heartily' congratulated the recipients upon receiving an illuminated address. He mentioned that Kaponga Lodge had some old members who had worked hard in the interests of the lodge and it behoved the younger members to uphold the traditions of the Order in the district.
Bro. Bellringer added a few words of praise on behalf of the five members just- honoured, stating that thenwork would serve as a guide and inspiration to those who were to guide the destinies of the lodge in the years to come. Bros. Oarliis, Sollicker and Snowden also spoke in appreciative vein.
After musical lodge honours had been acorded them, the recipients all suitably replied, expressing thanks for the honour confered upon them.
During the course of his address, Bro. Bellringer mentioned that Bro. A. Melville, Kaponga, was the senior lodge secretary in the Taranaki district, having held that office for iver twenty-five years.
After an enjoyable supper under the supervision of the Lodge Sisters, dancing was- indulged in to music byMr Jac-k Hooker.
