Irish Measure Declared Powerless to Abolish Status OPPOSITION MEMBER’S VIEWS (United Press Association —3y Electric Telegrapb Copyright, Received 3 p.m. to-day. DUBLIN, Jan. 17. The Citizenship Bill was introduced in the Senate to-day by Mr de Valera who said it was important to clearly define who are Free State citizens, owing to the possibility of foreign treaties. Relating to their rights, a member of the opposition, Mr Browne K.C., declared that the Free State was powerless to abolish the status of British subjects, inside or outside the Free State.
The bill passed the second reading
