FISH AND CHIPS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l see by your issue of the 17th inst that the Fishmongers Association of Australia made a plea for the removal of the potato embargo to the Federal Minister of Health. Mr Hughes. The Minister, in replying to the deputation, stated: “The potato growers have to get a decent price for their potatoes, but I do know that tons of fish are dumped into the sea to keep the'price of fish up here.” in view of the fact that Mr Masters failed to make any' impression on the Federal Ministers regarding the embargo on New Zealand potatoes, lie did wish to convey some hope to the community' on his arrival back in New Zealand that if he failed in “chips” there was hope for the “fish.” He stated (if my memory does not fail me) “that a very profitable business could be built up by New Zealand fishermen by' the exportation of fish to Australia which was dear compared with the price in New Zealand.” How does this square with the Federal Minister’s reply to the fishmongers of Australia, Yours, etc., W. H. LEWIS.
