EXTRACTS FROM “HAWERA STAR” JANUARY 19. 1885. The cricket match, Hawera v. Patea, was played on Saturday, and resulted in what must be a new •sensation for Hawera—a win (writes “Stump”). The highest scorer for Hawera was Harden, who was run out at 17 out of a, total of 51. Patea scored 29 and 40 respectively, and Hawera won by eight wicket-. * * * * * ll will be remembered that a short time ago the New Plymouth borough council gave employment to a number of unemployed at stone breaking. The Herald says that the capacity of the council to find this work has now been exhausted, and that the men will bo thrown upon their own resources again.
