KAPONGA DEFEATED
WIN FOR STRATFORD SIDE MARGIN OF 26 RUNS S. LAY’S GOOD DOUBLE. The visiting Stratford team accounted for, Kaponga in a one-innings match. Stratford made 149, to which Kaponga replied with 123. A feature of the play was a brilliant double by S. Lay (Stratford) who made 45 and took seven wickets for 63. Stratford batted first, but little headway was made until Hall (44) and S. Lay* brought the score along. The only other player to reach double figures was Snell (14). although extras totalled 17. Ross Eden bowled well to take seven for 27. The bulk of Kapouga’s score came from S. Betts, who made 59. Ross Eden (184 and Busing (10) gave him soma support, but the remainder of the side failed badly. NORTH TARANAKI PLAY SCHOOL PLAY OUT DRAW. In the North Taranaki senior competition, High School were able to play out a draw against Old Boys. School’s ninth wicket was lost in the last over before the drawing of stumps, but the last men played out time. The previous week Old Boys had made 262 and School had lost one wicket for 10 runs. On Saturday, School continued its total to 252 for nine .wickets, a feature of the match being bright totals of 78 by Larkin and 77 by AVaters. In the other match Western Park defeated New Plymouth by 18 runs on the first innings. With a first innings score or 166. Western Park batted a second time and with the total at 111 fur three wickets declared, leaving New Plymouth 159 runs to make m about 76 minutes lor a win. After going for the runs and losing five wickets a. stumps, New Plymouth was 24 runs short of the objective. In Western Park’s second innings, Ewart was not out with 66. Nasmith made 62 in New Plymouth's first innings and Davison 66 in the second. Bowling for Western Park Spodding took lour for 2(1 in New Plymouth s first innings.
