SALE OF WORK HELD SUM OF £loo REALISED A most successful sale of work was held by members of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, under the direction of the Rev. Stuart, in the Waverley Town Hall on Friday when the sum of £lO5 was raised. The stall holders were as follow. —Produce, Mesdames Matliieson, Middleditch, Misses Cheyne (2) and N. Elmslie; cake, Mesdames Castle and D. Robertson; sweets, members of tlic Girls’ Auxiliary; art, | Miss B. Elmslie and helpers; plain--1 sewing, Mesdames W. Morrison, D. j Walker and Lamont. Mrs Muir, with many willing helpers, served afternoon tea. i MAGISTRATE’S COURT I At a sitting of. the Magistrate s I Court at Waverley on Friday, before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., P. W. Locker (Patea) was charged with running a lorrv on the main highway with defective brakes. The defendant failed to appear and was lined 10s and court costs. A similar charge was laid against H. W. Hurley (Waitotara). A plea of guilty was entered by his coun. and a fine of 10s was imposed.
Judgment for plaintiff by defar 1+ was entered up as follows:—H. W. Hurley v. Rangi Phillips, £2 Os 2d; Eromiieys Ltd. v A.. Huff, £2 3s fi' 1 An order for the payment of £1 15s gd to Mary Young, in default two days’ imprisonment, was made against D. B. Dodunski. An application by R. Coster for a judgment summons order against Eric Neale was refused after evidence as to means had been given by the debtor. Some time was occupied by the magistrate in hearing a defended action brought by W. C. Beer against E. Betteridge for the sum of £8 10s alleged to be due for rent, less an allowance of £1 10s for goods purchased. Judgment was given in favour of the defendant with costs.
