METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL
- AXNIYE'RSAHY CEiLEBRATIONS SERVICES AT HAW ERA Successful anniversary celebrations of the Methodist Sunday School, Regent Street, were held yesterday morning, afternoon and evening, good congregations gathering on each occasion. The special feature of the services was the line singing, solo and chorus work, as well as the scripture recitations and appropriate poetry. The following numbers were part of the children’s worship and thanksgiving:—Solos: Eva Stuart, Elsie Hartmann, Dorothy Tobeek, Margaret Fox, Ron and Ray Shaw, and a duet by the Misses Joyce Knightbridge and Beryl Grindrod; recitations: Shirley Walters and Vivian Gellet. The infants pleased with their bright singing, “Dainty Wee Daisy,” “Jesus High in Glory,” “Jesus Bids Us Shine,” “Away in a Manger,” and “ I come to Jesus.” The tiny tots and senior scholars recited two portions of scripture, and splendid choruses by both sections of the young people’s choir were also rendered. Each service closed with a hymn-prayer, “God be With You,” set to sympathetic music for the children by the conductor, Mr H. C. Fox. Mr Gilmore McConnell presided at the organ throughout the day. The preacher in the afternoon, the Rev. John Ings, delivered an address to the children by way of an object lesson which illustrated many truths.
In the morning and evening the Rev. Basil Metson conducted the services and at the latter spoke to the children from the text, Joshua 24:15 “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” He illustrated his address with prune stones and indicated the attitude of different people, young and old, to the question of decision for Christ in the words: “This year, next year, sometime, never.
