The trial is proceeding of a Belgian named Lussoir, who waited nine years to avenge his daughter’s murder. He is charged with killing Albert Vandervost, his daughter’s husband. Lussoir, in a statement from the dock, calmly justified the murder, saying he was completely sane and responsible for the act.
“But your son in-law expiated liis crime/’ said the judge. Lussoir rejoined that he could only expiate it with his life. In 1025 Vandervost shot his wife after she had obtained a divorce, lie was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment, which on appeal was reduced to seven years. Lussoir vowed vengeance. He made six visits to Paris, and finally tracked Vandervost to an hotel in April. He waited two days at a doorwav and shot him oead.
