OF INTEREST TO WOMEN “Around the Clock” Happy the woman who knows her own mind amid the bewildering interests presented by this new season! It is one matter to consider vaguely just what garb one requires to meet day- ; to-day occasions; it is quite another matter and an infinitely more pleasant one to wander around Hawera shops to see exactly what the season has to offer for every hour around the clock. Colour contrasts are now deliberately' planned. Dark blouses are worn with the attractive lighter suits. Taffeta has made a determined onslaught; it is used for novel trimmings; it'fashions the gayest blouses and even exerts its influence on hats. Accordion pleating intrudes delightfully here, there and everywhere, as a jabot, in taffeta cape panels on a slim black coat, and to border the -smartest frocks in the new closely-patterned silks. Three-quarter sleeves are another popular-arrival', and. it is noticed that shoulders and upper sleeves are still lightly’ stressed. For millinery all sorts of piquant models are forthcoming, from the saucy little shallow-crowned styles, with fine head straps and upturned brims graced by the outstanding “wired” net eyeveils, to the wider models which are infinitely kinder to those whose back curls get a trifle out of hand; tlie huge leghorn shapes, and those which boast a crown or brim actually made in plaid taffeta. Beading, if in light design, concentrated on the corsage, is. definitely expressed by new evening gowns.

The new colour to-day is blue. Bright olive-brown is smart, olive-green, a dark rich bottle-green and blue, in every shade. In the evening don’t let anyone tell you you look sweet in pale pink or pale blue, unless it is lame, or tulle, chiffon, or cotton and don’t insist on the inevitable black. The dark rich shades which replace black are newer —deep purple deep sapphire blue, carnation red, bottle-green or brown. If you want something lighter, then wear a bright Chinese blue and Chinese red. In cotton, muslin,, chiffon, crepe de chine—white is always pretty.
