PROGRESS AT MELBOURNE FOURTH STAGE TO FRENCHMAN (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright). Received 2.30 p.m. to-day. MELBOURNE, To-day. Mithouard', the Frenchman, is leading for the championship honours at the end of the fourth stage of the Centenary £IOOO cycling race, gaining first and fastest time from Bendigo to Wangaratta, 157 miles. Opperman and Cruise secured second and third points. Thursday will be the hardest stage of the race, the rout lying through alpine country to Omeo, 154 miles away. Over the Sotham Heights the road is 6000 feet above sea level. The Tace ends cm Saturday.
ENGLISH ATHLETES CHOSEN. PQSSIBaUTY~OF N.Z. TOUR. (United Pres* Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright). Received 2.45 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Oct. 24. The International Board of the Amateur Athletic Association has chosen R. Murdoch (Glasgow University), G. L. Rampling (Milocarian Athletic Club), J. V. Powell (London Athletic dub) and R. M. Oraske (South London Harriers) for the Centenary games team leaving London on December 8, under the management of Mr Evan Hunter. There is a possibility of the team visiting New Zealand later.
