NO AMENDMENT THIS YEAR. 'DISCUSSION IN HOUSE. (By Telegrapii—Fr?ss Association j WELLINGTON, Oct. 24. Mr F. Jones (Lab., Dunedin South) asked the Minister of Finance, the Rt. lion. J. G. Coates, in the House of Representatives to-day if the Government would introduce legislation in the present session to amend section 140, sub-section 2, of the Companies Act as recommended by the Public Petitions Committee. Mr Coates in reply said it was not proposed to amend the section this year. Every application for admission to the Neiv Zealand Society of Accountants was carefully considered on its merits. The president of the society stated that he carefully considered all the representations made and he did not know of any instance in which real hardship had been proved as a result of the passing of section 140. The greatest care was exercised In considering the original applications, and applicants were given the benefit of the doubt in every case in which it appeared hardship might he inflicted.
