The Navy Office has announced that seven ratings have been discharged from the Royal Australian Navy and another ten sentenced to detention for 90 days as the result of a disturbance on H.M.A.S. Moresby at D'anvin on August 19. An able seaman struck a petty officer and he was disciplined. It was reported at the time, although the commander of the Moresby denied it later, that the offender was put in irons. As a protest some of the other ratings locked themselves in the mess room and refused to open the door until the irons were removed. A court of inquiry considered the actio,n of the seven ratings who refused to parade for duty when an attempt was made to restore order after the disturbance, and the punishments announced are results of these inquiries.
